Give Up Soda and Get Back Your Waistline
At True Citrus, we noted recently that studies estimate that half of us will be obese –not overweight, but obese – by 2030.
We’d like to point out that one of the biggest culprits in the national weight gain problem is sodas. Colas, pops --whatever you call them, they are bad news for your body. They are the very definition of junk food: pure calories, no nutrients. Yes, that includes cane-sugar and natural sodas. And it also includes diet sodas.
In fact, sweetened drinks are the only specific food that clinical research has directly linked to weight gain. Soft drinks contribute about 10 percent of the calories in the American diet, according to government data.
This past spring, the American Association of Pediatricians went so far as to say kids and teens don’t need them at all. And the Center for Science in the Public Interest even wants to require obesity-warning labels on the sides of soda cans, like the surgeon general's warning on cigarettes.
The problem is simply the number of empty (non-nutritious) calories. There’s about 400 calories in a 32-ounce Coke. That's nearly a quarter of the daily calories that the average adult woman needs to maintain her present weight! So it’s easy to see how soda can quickly tip you toward weight gain.
So instead of reaching for a can of cola, or even Un-cola, we encourage you to make your own tasty soda with seltzer, all-natural, 0-calorie True Citrus and some ice. We’ve got plenty of other great True Citrus drink recipes for you that mean you can have a healthful, delicious hot or cold beverage without the empty calories and unnecessary weight gain from sodas.
This is one easy change that can mean a world of difference to your waistline!
