True Lemon When we launched our 4th of July Recipe Contest, we knew we could count on our talented True Citrus customers to provide us with some yummy and unique recipes. We hope you have a chance to make some of the scrumptious recipes that were submitted, and you’ll share our delicious dilemma in trying to choose a favorite!

Each of our winners has shared a bit about themselves and their love of cooking. We’re pleased to meet them and know you will be too!

contest_mesch Winner: Orzo Salad with Corn, Tomatoes and Basil
Our Grand Prize winner Kendel Mesch is from (no kidding!) Mount Healthy, Ohio, and is a Chemical Engineering major at Ohio State. Kendel credits her mom for her love of cooking. “I’ve been cooking since I started high school. My mom loves to cook. She has always encouraged us to try and taste new things. Her love of cooking, honestly is kind of contagious.” Kendel uses True products at school because they are really easy to store and they give a lot of flavor. Kendal credits them with helping her avoid the dreaded “freshman 15”!

Honorable Mention winner Angela McClure of Holly Springs, North Carolina, is a work-at-home mom, teacher and a reading tutor of kindergarten through 5th graders. And in her spare time(!) Angela loves to cook and write recipes. “I'm always looking for ingredients in my cooking that are flavorful enough, but don't add any liquid to the dish. True Lemon is a winner because it adds flavor without using liquid. It's great that it's an alternative to just plain water, as well.”  You're never too old to learn or create some exciting new dishes! is Angela’s cooking motto.

contest_hueyBlueberry Orange Crumb Cake
Our home-grown Baltimore, Maryland organic gardener, former architect and now personal chef Jennifer Huey found time to send in her winning recipe despite working non-stop as the owner of Bringing Home the Basil. “Keeping the True products in my cabinet saves me so much time, money and energy. There was a time when I had to make emergency trips to the grocery store for citrus that I thought I had only to discover that it was not in the fridge, it had gone bad, or I used the zest and forgot to wrap it up and now it is a citrus rock. With True Lemon, I don’t worry about having citrus taste on hand.”

contest_burrinkLime and Coconut Biscotti
When we first read the recipe submitted by Honorable Mention winner Diana Burrink of Crete, Illinois, we knew we had to try it. The inventive use of True Lime solved a problem plaguing crispy biscotti lovers everywhere - how do you add big flavor without making biscotti too darn wet? True Lime to the rescue for us cookie lovers! Diana’s biscotti was so good that every cookie was gone within minutes! “I’m so glad people liked my recipe so much!”

contest_nelsonSpicy Citrus Shrimp with Siracha Sweet Mayonnaise
Jeanette Nelson of Sophia, West Virginia isn’t shy about her love of True Lemon. Her unapologetically savory entry was spicy perfection and she credits True Lemon for being the perfect robust seasoning substitute for salt. Jeanette says “each and everyone one of us is looking for healthy alternatives for our families and that is why I love True Lemon!” We wholeheartedly agree.

We loved hosting this contest so much we want to do it again! Please keep an eye out for more True Citrus recipe contests in the future, and keep sending in your fabulous dishes for inclusion in our community recipe bank.
