Major University Survey Finds True Lemon Increases Water Consumption
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (JUNE, 2010) BALTIMORE, MD – A survey conducted at one of California’s largest universities has shown that adding True Lemon, True Lime or True Orange to water can significantly increase water consumption.
Study participants using True Lemon daily increased water consumption from an average of 3.69 glasses per day to 6.07 per day – a 61% increase in the amount of water taken in.
The survey, entitled “True Lemon Report: The Use of Non-Caloric Water Flavorings with Industrial and Administrative Workers – A 30 Day Pilot Incentive Program” was conducted by Eric Durak, M.Sc., Health and Wellness Specialist at the university system.
The survey’s goal was “to use True Lemon, True Lime and True Orange with university employees to see if adding these packets to drinking water would be an incentive to take in more water during the work day.” The report noted the many important health reasons for drinking enough water, including “younger looking skin, reduce joint or muscle pain, flush toxins from your body, increase energy and alertness, improve digestion and elimination, reduce risk of disease and infections, and improve mental clarity and performance.”
In the program, forty-five members from the university’s Facilities Management and Design and Construction departments volunteered to be given a 30-day supply of True Lemon, True Lime, and True Orange packets to use in water each day. At 30 days participants were surveyed to see if they did use the packets, and if they increased their water intake.
Durak’s report called the pilot survey “a success” and noted that “True Lemon gives an alternative to sugary soft drinks, and even cold beverages such as iced mochas or teas, that may contain caffeine or other products. True Lemon is also an interesting substitute for flavored carbonated waters, as it is added to plain water versus a carbonated beverage (which it could be added to). Our staff enjoyed having the True Lemon program as part of their work incentive program, and any future program would be used for a longer time frame to see if water intake increases for more than one month.”
