About Feeding America®
Feeding America is the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity.
Their mission is to feed America's hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger.
The Feeding America network of more than 200 member food banks has created a foundation geared towards getting wholesome staples to the 37 million people they serve each year, including 15 million children and 3 million seniors.
Feeding America supplies almost 4 billion pounds of food and grocery products annually.
Feeding America, then named America's Second Harvest, was founded in 1976 when it merged with the non-profit FoodChain. The seeds of Feeding America were planted in the 1960s when a retired Arizona business man, John van Hengel, started to ask for contributions from the local grocery stores for the soup kitchen where he was volunteering.
A dollar donation to Feeding America equals nine meals secured and distributed by Feeding America on behalf of local food banks. (Subject to change based on annual conversation rates.)
Feeding America does this through securing food on a local and national level from manufacturers, retailers, farmers, government sources and consumer donations; distributing food on a local level through its network of 200 food banks; raising funds from local and national corporations, foundations and individuals; sharing best practices and advocating on a local and national level for those who are food insecure and more often than not without powerful allies fighting for them.
Why We're Partnering with Feeding America®:

15.5% of rural households are food insecure.
34% of all households served by Feeding America have had to choose between paying for food and paying for medicine or medical care.
