    Breast Cancer Resources

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

According to the American Cancer Society, since 1990 more women have been surviving breast cancer, largely because of early detection through
    mammography and improvements in treatment.

We put together the following information to help you learn more about a disease that is expected to kill 40,170 women this year in the U.S. (American Cancer Society)

    1) Info on treatment options, clinical trials, support groups, etc. from leading health organizations:

Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation

    Breast Cancer Society

National Cancer Institute - Breast Cancer

    Mayo Clinic Breast Cancer Information

    2) Article: Protect Yourself from Breast Cancer

    3) Article: Ways to support research

    4) Article:

How to know which companies really contribute to breast cancer causes

    5) Gifts for those undergoing treatment for breast cancer (a note from Heidi, VP – Customer Relations/Editor)

Of my three sisters, my younger sister, Anna, is by far the healthiest: super fit, runs in races, eats right, doesn’t smoke, etc.  She, however, was diagnosed with breast cancer last year (found through her yearly mammogram, so get yours!).

Thankfully, Anna is doing great now but underwent chemo and radiation.  I wanted to send her a care package as she started her treatments, but couldn’t find a comprehensive list of appropriate items. I found ideas in various places and ended up with this list (with additions by Anna):

    1. Book: Just Get Me Through This: The Practical Guide to Breast Cancer by Deborah Cohen (Anna continues to recommend this book to those recently diagnosed)
    2. Ginger candies or anything gingery for nausea
    3. A nice throw blanket
    4. A gift certificate for a head covering (like the BeauBeau at http://www.4women.com/)
    5. A small notebook for making notes at doctor’s visits
    6. A weekly pill dispenser
    7. A stuffed animal
    8. Crossword puzzles
    9. Mild herbal tea and a nice mug
    10. Hard candies to help with dry mouth
    11. Satin pillowcase(s)
    12. Journal
    13. Mild tooth paste
    14. Spearmint chewing gum
    15. Lip balm (no strong smell)
    16. Moisturizing mouth spray (to help with dry mouth)
    17. Water bottle (need to drink a lot of water during chemo  -Anna added True Lemon to improve the taste of her water!) And make sure if plastic it’s BPA free.
    18. Unscented lotions, soaps and deodorant (no strong smells)
    19. Relaxing music (up to the taste of the individual but could range from Bach’s The Complete Brandenburg Concertos to music featuring sounds from nature to Nirvana)
    20. Anything else that will be uniquely special to the person you care about

We hope you don’t, but if you ever need to send a care package to someone you love who’s getting treatment, Anna and I hope this list helps!

    Fan Quotes »

I just started eating healthier and I thank True Lemon for contributing to my weight loss. I can tell a difference already. I tell everyone about it. I am a fan for life." Maria H., Whitsett NC
I just have to tell you how much I love your product! I hate the taste of plain water, and it was just too time consuming and expensive for me to be buying lemons all the time. A friend from work told me about True Lemon, and now I drink 5-6 bottles of water a day, all sprinkled with a packet of it. Thank you for helping me to drink less diet soda, and more water!" Kira F.
Ever since my fiancé had gastric bypass surgery and I was diagnosed with Poly Cystic Kidney Disease, we both have excellent reasons to increase our water consumption. True Lemon & Lime are like manna from heaven! We love them and we love to share it with others. Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Alysa H.
