health benefits of avocados is that they contain magnesium. According
to Harvard University researchers, the more magnesium in your diet, the
less likely you are to develop type 2 diabetes. Magnesium also helps to
control blood pressure, regulate nerve impulses, build strong bones and
protect the heart from electrical abnormalities like arrhythmias. The
recommended daily allowances of magnesium for people age 31 and up are
420 milligrams for men and 320 milligrams for women. In addition to avocados,
the mineral can be found in green, leafy vegetables, nuts, whole grains,
certain fruits and shellfish. If you have a True Lemon™ recipe
that you would like to share, please email Holly at hradoci@grandbrands.us. On average, Americans consume about 2500 to 5000 milligrams of sodium (salt) on a daily basis. Did you know that your body only needs 500 to 1000 milligrams of salt, daily? Reducing sodium can help reduce high blood pressure, which in turn can decrease the likelihood of heart or kidney disease and stroke. The American Heart Association recommends, "healthy American adults should reduce their sodium intake to no more than 2400 mgs a day." By reading the sodium content on the Nutrition Facts Label, you can begin to monitor your sodium intake. Reducing your sodium can start with something as simple as tasting your food before adding salt. Most foods contain sodium in their natural state already, and chances are you don't need to add anymore. By cutting down on salt use gradually, the taste buds have time to adjust. Another good way to cut back on your sodium intake is to use spices and herbs such as basil, garlic (not garlic salt), parsley, paprika, pepper, nutmeg, dill, rosemary and allspice. Lemon is also a great way to flavor your food as well. It's especially great for lean meats, poultry, fish, vegetables and salads. No lemon at home? Just sprinkle a packet of True Lemon™ on your favorite dish. Eat out a lot? Take several packets of True Lemon™ with you; and instead of reaching for the salt shaker at the table, reach into your purse or pocket for True Lemon™ to sprinkle on your meal. Dr. David Framm, a board-certified cardiologist and internist practicing in Charlotte, NC, has always been a fan of trying alternate spices. "Lemon pepper can be an excellent salt alternative; however; many brands of lemon pepper actually contain large quantities of sodium. Peppers, specifically cayenne pepper, are also excellent alternatives. Some of my patients have complained that regular ground black pepper just doesn't offer the 'kick' or 'bite' that salt does." Dr. Framm also finds that lemon is an incredibly useful flavoring. "From the cardiac standpoint, lemon is an ideal salt substitute. It's palatable, and in the case of True Lemon™, it's inexpensive, portable and healthy. It clearly has enough of the bite and flavor to replace either adding sodium (salt) to prepared foods or using salt to cook foods." Sarah from Smyrna, GA has also found True Lemon™ to be a great help in reducing her sodium intake: "I love your product and it's a blessing for me. I have Diabetes and CHF (Congestive Heart Failure). I am supposed to be limiting my intake of sodium (salt). That's a biggie for me as I have to also limit my sugar because of Diabetes. True Lemon™ can be used in most things where salt is used. So for once I don't have to live without flavor. Thank you for this." Take the American
