MICHAEL AND MARY LU HARDING

We are pleased to introduce Michael and Mary Lu Harding of Lincoln, VT! We first heard from Mary Lu when she wrote to tell us that True Lemon® was helping her husband’s health problem. “My husband Michael has a history of kidney stones, which are excruciatingly painful. His doctor suggested that he switch from colas to lemonade because the citrate found in lemons could help displace calcium oxalate in the body, which are a part of what forms kidney stones. So my husband started drinking lemonade, and sure enough, the bouts of stones stopped. However, commercial lemonade is loaded with sugar (even more sugar than many colas) which he didn’t like. Then I found True Lemon®. Now he dilutes the lemonade 3:1 and to keep it from tasting like water, he adds packets of True Lemon®, which boosts both the taste and citrate level. He uses about 10 packets a day!”

Mary Lu first heard about True Lemon® from Real Simple’s magazine article. After that, she found it at a local pharmacy. “We loved it, so I bought all they had on the shelves at the time!”

Mary Lu also uses True Lemon® in cooking. “It’s fabulous in marinades, dressings, desserts and all kinds of things. I also add True Lemon® to vegetables when they are cooking (boiling or steaming). It boosts the flavor of the veggies, keeps the color bright and keeps things like apples and eggplants from turning brown. I’m also playing around with making my own seasoning mixes (lemon pepper, etc.).

True Lemon® saves me the trouble of squeezing lemons each time I need a bit. I used to buy lemons and then had to use them up before they shriveled into hard rocks. True Lemon® is always here, never spoils, and is ready when I need it. I’m really excited about using True Lemon® shaker bottles!”

Michael and Mary Lu tell all of their diet-conscious friends about True Lemon®. “One friend,” states Mary Lu, “is an organic foods fan and uses lemons constantly. She tried True Lemon® and loved it. Another runs a care home for the elderly. She has patients on all kinds of therapy diets (diabetes, kidney problems, etc.). She loves it as well because it is convenient for her and good for her patients. Also, as we age, many people lose their sense of taste and smell and appreciate stronger flavors. Besides the flavor boost that True Lemon® provides, Michael and Mary Lu love its health benefits. They are both on medical diets and have to watch what they eat. Mary Lu explains, “Besides kidney stone prevention, we are on low fat/low cholesterol diets, which True Lemon® helps by enhancing flavor without adding fat. Michael is on medication for high blood pressure, so we have been a low-sodium house for a long time. Seasonings are a major source of sodium, so I am especially careful about what I use. True Lemon® is a great seasoning without adding sodium. Also, although we are not diabetic, it runs in both our families. Prevention is everything, so we don’t use a lot of sugar or artificial sweeteners. That’s why Michael dilutes his lemonade more than double the normal concentration.”

Michael and Mary Lu have a daughter, Mindy, who is 33 years old and a grandson, Luke who is 6 years old. Michael is a business consultant. He also loves woodworking (and makes really nice furniture), archery, volunteering for Meals-on-Wheels, working with Boy Scouts on shooting and archery merit badges, and being active with both community and church projects. Last year he was the moderator of Town Meeting.

Mary Lu is a business consultant also (and Michael’s business partner in Harding & Associates, consulting firm) and loves to garden. “We live in the woods, so I’ve become a field naturalist by studying the wildlife. I’m currently doing a genealogy study of our family history and I also love arts and crafts. To sum me up, I love life and like to help people and things grow and flourish. I like to create new things and try out new ideas. As I get older and watch those around me grow older too, I’m reminded of the old adage: Use it or lose it.”
