This BBQ sauce recipe is sweetened with natural molasses, and not too much. Great for those watching their sugar intake that still want to enjoy this smoky-sweet condiment! Recipe adapted from Sugar Free Mom.
1 cup Homemade Ketchup
1 packet True Lemon dissolved in 1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 clove garlic, mashed
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons molasses*
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon celery seed
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
2-3 dashes liquid smoke
2-3 dashes hot sauce (optional)
- In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, combine all ingredients together and stir well.
- Bring to a boil then reduce heat to low. Simmer uncovered for about 15-minutes until thickened.
*Feel free to use honey in place of molasses, but it will not give the sauce that traditional dark color.
Recipe makes about 1 1/2 cups, and is delicious over pork, jackfruit, or as a topping for burgers.
