Giving Back: How You Can Make an Impact for Hunger Action Month

Did you know that every single community across America houses families that struggle with having access to food each day? Whether in rural towns or suburbs, more likely than not, a neighbor within your community struggles every day with putting meals on the table for their families.

A few staggering facts about hunger in America (from Feeding America):

  • The coronavirus pandemic has dramatically increased the number of people experiencing food insecurity - over 42 million people.
  • Households with children are more likely to experience food insecurity in America, and even before the pandemic hit more than 10 million children were affected.
  • Systemic racial injustice leads to African American, Latino, and Native American cultures suffering from food insecurity at much higher rates.

September is Hunger Action Month, and here at True Citrus we are working to pave the way for a better future for all. This is why we’ve partnered with Feeding America to take the necessary steps needed to support families and communities in need.

These are some easy ways to help support your community with access to good, healthy foods during Hunger Action Month.

How to Make an Impact for Hunger Action Month

Talking about hunger issues is a great place to start. Whether it’s having conversations with your kids at dinner or sharing a personal experience with coworkers, every time you talk about hunger you’re raising awareness. Go an extra step further and post any pictures of you volunteering or advocating to end hunger in America to social media with #HungerActionMonth and remember to tag @FeedingAmerica. Speak up to anyone who will listen!

Food banks distribute billions of meals to families all over the United States and they are mainly operated and run by the hard work of volunteers. Even just signing up for one afternoon a month is a wonderful way to give back to your community and support these incredible organizations. Here is where you can find a food bank near you

For your next birthday or special life event, ask your friends and family members to donate to your own personal fundraiser. Rather than get another candle or a gift card, why not use the opportunity to campaign against hunger? Use your celebration as a platform in lieu of gifts and feel good about giving the amazing gift of fighting hunger in America instead.

Your elected officials have the power to make real change at the root of the problem. Federal nutrition programs begin with the support of people like you, and the people that you elect to represent your community. Here is more about how you can become an advocate for ending hunger

Every action you take during Hunger Action Month is worthwhile, and helps to support those in need. Together, we can help solve hunger in America.
