How to Stay Hydrated this Summer

The summer season may look pretty different this year, but luckily the fun isn’t canceled! While you’re getting out and about and enjoying the sunshine be sure to keep your body well hydrated.

Did you know that National Hydration Day is June 23rd? Created to raise awareness of the importance of hydration, this is a big day for True Citrus. In order to celebrate, we have some helpful tips to start your summer hydration off right!

How to Stay Hydrated this Summer

Wake up, drink up.

All throughout the night we are slowly dehydrating. When you first wake up in the morning before you even brush your teeth, drink a large glass of water. Not only will it start off your day with good hydration, but water will also help to wake up your entire body. As the weather begins to warm up, drinking down a glass of water is the perfect way to start the day well hydrated.

Bring a water bottle everywhere you go.

No matter where you are going or what you have planned for your day, always throw a bottle of water in your bag on your way out the door. There are times when we end up being out longer than expected, and rather than going thirsty you’ll always be glad you have water on hand. Even if you aren’t sure you’ll need it, it is better to have hydration with you than not.

Keep a water bottle pre-filled and ready to grab.

Whether you keep a regular bottle of water in the fridge to cool, or a double-insulated water bottle by the door where you keep your keys, have them filled and chilled and ready to go. Pre-filling your bottle with water (and a packet of True Lemon) will ensure that you’ll never forget to bring your hydration along with you.

When water goes out, put more in.

Whenever your body begins excreting a significant amount of water, it is a good idea to start replenishing. If you notice you’re sweating, start sipping more. If you go to the bathroom, start a new habit and take a few big gulps from your water bottle after washing your hands. As a general rule when you let go of water, add more back in!

Snack on water-heavy foods.

It is always a healthy move to start eating more fruits and vegetables. However, during the summer months there’s another great reason: to hydrate! There are plenty of kinds of produce that have a high water content, and munching on them instead of salty processed foods will help you stay happy and healthy. Fruits and vegetables that contain a lot of water are: tomatoes, watermelon, berries, cucumbers, zucchini, carrots, celery.
